Even if you're being facetious (and I don't know if you are), I'd like to point out that birth control is not 100% effective. 

Also:  even if you are in favor of a punishment so grotesque for the mother, what justifies causing a life to be lived that is more likely to be miserable?  What of the cost to society?

I know birth control isn't 100% effective. Theoretically, a baby can be conceived if the couple are using condoms, the woman is on birth control, she's infertile that time of the month, and he pull's out. I am not saying it's impossible, just very unlikely.

Nothing. There are alternatives to abortion though.
