My Wii was in repair during chistmas, where they changed the disc drive. Propably broke down due to my youngest kid pulling it down to floor (they couldn't prove anything, so it went to warranty). Originally i thought it was due to the kid trying to put a stack of discs inside the machine. Now the new drive is very quiet, i believe it's quieter than the original when i bought the system.
The old drive made some strange noise every once and awhile, with some games it' noisier than others. I had once a disc reading error with Strikers, which went away when i let the disc to cool down.
