Here are two possible explanations: 1) Suddenly and without warning, the demand for the DS completely fell apart and very few people want them anymore. 2) The system is supply constrained.

#1. A lot of people had birthdays and are no longer 12 and under, so they have no interest in the DS anymore. John Koller was right!
