@MikeB: The slimline should need to be priced somewhere sub 200 pricerange. The 2009 line-up isn't anything impressive. Notice that GTA4 didn't have practically any effect against the Wii, a game which without a doubt was the biggest hitter the HD consoles can get. Notice that it's been outsold by MKWii and Wii Fit (on a smaller installbase) and that should give an impression about games that sell systems. As i said, Wiis biggest system sellers can't be beaten by making "bigger and better" games.
Despite the HD consoles fighting an uphill battle against Wii, when combined, individually they need to fight each other on top of that. Besides, SCE isn't in a situation where it could drop the price and take more losses (slimline isn't going to drop the price in half).
@CGI-Quality: Well, it's pretty much a failure for losing that much money and marketshare. Difference with GC is, that the latter made money.
