More characters with more stages and better balance is helpful, but I also prefer the slower pace and the greater emphasis on aerial fighting. Online is a nice bonus.

It seemed to me that there was a lot of space "off screen" on the edges in the original. You could be out there in that little bubble, and still make it back, three, maybe four times if you were lucky. I really liked this. There was a lot of tension in that moment you get hit. "Will I make it back this time?" A lot of crazy moments like that. Especially when someone just barely made it back even though you were sure that they were dead that time.
It seems like that "off screen" space is a lot smaller in Brawl. One good shot, and you're dead. That big explosion thing happens, and next thing you know, you're back in the middle of the stage with a new life. Now you get hit and think "Fuck". Not as fun, in my opinion.
I'm not sure if we are taking about the same thing, I just thought I would try and clarify my point.
