Final is onto something tho. If only Sony would put out a model with no mem card reader or wi-fi and like a 20-40gb HD for $399 sales would really take off. The HD size matters very little. I mean an 80GB brand name HDD is $55 at newegg.com.

They need to copy MS and have 1 model that is at a considerably lower price point. The difference will be that Sony's bottom price point model is still FULLY functional. They still need to include a HD, just a small one and leave out the extras like wifi and memcard reader.

Umm, the wif-fi, card reader, etc dont add hardly any COST. Those things are a couple dollars to add on.

And cost is what's really keeping Sony from dropping the price.

They cant afford to lose unlimited money.

If they could do that, then they could just drop the 80GB model to 399, because it costs about the same to produce as your hypothetical 40GB,-wi-fi,-card reader model.

About $20 for the Wi-fi / mem card readers, using iSuppli launch figures.  Now that you all mentioned it, I did see it in the rumor section of the recent Game Informer about the 40 gig.

So now everybodies leo-j? lol

They are "according to them" not loosing money on europe ps3's. Maybe even gaining in some areas, like australia $1000 buks wtf? They arent loosing over 200dollars with the 80gig, and I doubt they are loosing $100dollars as well. The 80gig costs less than the 60gig and they are selling it for $599.99 so, I doubt they are loosing a significant amount of money per system. Maybe from the 40-70dollar range.
