@badgegnome and johnsobas Ok what you guys are forgetting is that there is no discernable proof that all RPG lovers of old have already chosen a system from the Next gen selection. There could still very well be another 5million or so RPG lovers who simply have not chosen a side. I say this becuase majority of JRPGs of this gen have released on 360 and have yet to pass the 1million bench mark in worldwide sales. That means there are not even a WW total of RPG lovers on that system. I know RPGs dont sell as well as certain other genres such as FPS and Adventure games. Yet RPGs of last gen could still make a hefty amount. FF sales get 5mill minimum, that means there are indeed RPG fans out there, they simply are not interested in these new RPGs. Is it becuase they strictly worship FF only?NO! It is becuase they generally are not up to the same level of quality as the FF series. What does this have to do with the sales of JRPGs? THis means that there are not 1million JRPG lovers who own a 360. THey are either owners of a PS3, Wii, or still holding out for which one they want with their PS2. If you are a consumer like me, you would have chosen the PS3 as JRPG system of choice, it was the only thing that made sense. PS2 had all the best JRPGs, so you would assume the PS3 would have them as well(whether that has held true or not to be determined). The verdict is still out on this one so far. We can not come to a fully factual conclusion until the PS3 gets classic JRPGs like the 360 has(that are not MP late ports, better judged with exclusives). LO,BD, ad ToV have all debuted on 360 exclusively, and have yet to pass 700k(last I checked, could be mistaken) worldwide. WKC appears to be selling at a much more alarming rate, looking to definitely out shine it's 360 counterparts. Waiting on WKC US release for further analysis... |
You seem to be forgetting that, unless they have "Final Fantasy," "Dragon Quest," or "Kingdom Hearts" in the title, JRPGs typically don't pass the million mark worldwide on any system. How many such JRPGs broke a million on the PS2? To my knowledge, only Star Ocean did.
