It's because the once ubiquitous Playstation is looking like a hasbeen, while the Xbox is sort of a never-was. Microsoft getting its ass-kicked by Sony in the console business would be a non-story to the non-gaming media. Besides, bandwagoning is how the media works. Remember all those "Game over for Nintendo?" articles before the Wii launched? (In their defense, that was a headline that was just too good to pass up.
