Even Halo has split-screen multiplayer, though, so why are developers so eager to abandon it? My guess is that the blame falls squarely on this need to make things as pretty as possible, which leaves little power left for split-screen or bots. Given the option to make the game look better, or to have more longevity, most developers opt for the former. It's to our long-term loss, but since it probably leads to more sales (at least in the short run) I suppose I can't really blame them.
