PS3 had Sixaxis right from launch, Singstar is very important franchise for them, Sony is advertizing Buzz for PS3 quite a lot at the moment, LBP ads try to appeal families etc. Basically all Sony is advertizing at the moment is the family friendly, non-traditional games and gameplay.
What the focus on the demographic you mentioned would mean, is to completely change the direction of the Playstation brand.
