That's a very good point. If Nintendo decides to move in a different direction, they will move the forward trend of controls with them.

 

 

 

I can guarantee We will never see another major console that ONLY offers a traditional controller.

Depending on how they play it, you might not have any standard controllers at all. Nintendo has set the future gen's controls and the others follow. Sure we still have D-pads, but that's implemented on top of the analog, and now those two will be implemented on top of the motion/IR. So I doubt we'll see too many standard controllers without at least the wiimote's capabilities at least.
