I see Sony expanding the market the same way as Psycho1984. Just sometime before PSX and Saturn was released, the visibility of gaming in the media just exploded. Suddenly games were everywhere. Then came PSX with massive marketing, unless you were living in a barrel, you did know what PlayStation X was. Cinema, newspapers, TV, bus stops, it was everywhere. Even Micro$ofts massive campain last year was nothing compared to Sonys marketing for PSX. Sony was able to catch the gaming audience, which was playing NES, Master System, SNES and Mega Drive in the previous console generations. And of course a couple new gamers.
One thing that also affected on PSX:s success, was that everyone had been playing Nintendo and Sega consoles as child, and therefore they were something kiddy for them, when soon to be independent kids wanted something that wasn't in their childhood. Now, Sony is facing the same kiddy image among soon to be independent kids.
Buzz and Singstar are big, they both are localized even for the small countries. PS3 haven't been advertised much since launch, but you can see Buzz or Singstar ads from TV and papers at least weekly. I think Boogie is going to be a hit in Europe.
Well, the guy is talking business, since all the PS2 had was minigames, non-games, cheap cash-ins, couple of Sony games and casual games. Nothing for the hardcore crowd.
Oh, and you who wanted to count the portable consoles out, note that it was the Sony exec in the interview, who brought the handhelds in, by mentioning the DS.
Ei Kiinasti.
Eikä Japanisti.
Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.
Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.
