Actually, the 360 is the JRPG-heavy one. PS3 has pretty much no JRPG support. Its best games are stealth games and shooter hybrids (MGS4, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Resistance) but there's plenty of variety in the form of LBP, VC etc.

You should own a PS3 because you get Killzone 2 in less than three months, you get God of War III eventually, and you get Trico. You get all of Sony's first party studios, you get Heavy Rain, good free online, a well-stocked store, an internet browser, and a Blu-ray player. If you get a 60GB, you have backwards compatibility with the largest good gaming library of any console. If not, there is a chance software B/C will be available on all SKUs soon.

If that wasn't enough to convince you, maybe you should consider a Wii.

EDIT: Get a new HD-ready TV. It looks extremely good with anything less than 50 inches, and is pretty cheap to boot. Pick up some HDMI cables for your new 360 and PS3, you can get 1.5m ones for around $10.
