Well considering from the first metroid you had a gun and shot enamies while exploring it hasnt changed much from that formula. what changed is it jumped from 2D to 3D and that forced elements in the game to change. Basic concept stayed the same, your a bad ass bounty hunter thats got a job to do and damit ur gona do it. Only thing that has changed from my point of view is they have added more of a story line inside the game. They basically had to because its freakin 3D world, alot more to explore and way easier to get lost. No story/goal (objective) = no adventure in the game. So updating the game is what they did by bringing it into 3D and things had to be added to make the game run smoothly. Saying its Halo like is over stating the impact halo has had in the world of video games. Might be a popular franchise but it didnt do anything better, or invent anything new all it did was bring PC experience to the console. PC FPS/FPA very popular for a long time so nothing amazing in my eyes. Saying that, How do you show an army of space pirates fighting samus in 3D? you put an army of space pirates in the game.

What i do think the Wii might need is a FPS game built with multiplayer in mind from the ground up, and i dont think Metroid is the franchise to sacrafice for that.
