The fact that Retro themselves calls it a FPA does tell you something about what they wanted it to be, though I agree, it is not generic. Probably why they prefer to call it FPA than FPS(ususally synonymous with more of the same).

Kind of like Geist. It is called a FPS, but I see it more of a possession based puzzle game with FPS elements to move things along.
