The 80GB PS3 actually does only cost about $300 to make (remember it has 65nm everything, and Blu-Ray has dropped dramatically in price -- it was at $400 before the 65/65 switch and blu-ray drops), but the Nintendo cost-to-make number seems way too high.

:-O

Some article history for all those who haven't been keeping track:

(some 10 months ago, before the Blu-Ray drops and 65nm GPUs)

(65nm GPU rumors, that now have been proven to be true -- I would dig articles confirming, but I'm tired of it)

...Sony isn't dumb, nor are they losing money on hardware any longer, I would wager.

ummm....so you believe a profit is being made on a single ps3 unit  ?

I said the PS3 probably costs around $300 to make. (actually I stated it as though it were a fact -- its not.  ...I'm just taking an educated guess, honestly)

Last I checked, the packaging, shipping, and retail industries all like to make money too.  I have no idea what Sony sells the packaged PS3 to retailers for.  However, I wouldn't be surprised if they are eeking out some profit.  I don't imagine it would be much.

wow....i'm wondering how much the wii(or even the 360) would cost to make if the ps3 is around $300
