I cant believe I;m going to say this, I agree with you.
The PS3 is 2 years old, the Xbox 360 is 3, and Wii is 2 also. This Holiday season is important but it isnt the last hoiday season any of these console are going to have. Remember that the PS2 outsold all three consoles two years ago and it is obviously older than the three current generation consoles. This goes to show that it is still WAY to early to call who will be second place.
Grant it the PS3 has fallen back some this holiday due to its price tag does not mean that its not selling pretty well considering the economic state and its price tag. Comparing last year to this year though the PS3 is still holds around 5% more marketshare than it did whikle the 360 has fallen from holding around 50% to 29.9% now thanks to the Wii.
Sony has stated plenty of times that they want to make profit before anything else at this moment. This is why no price cut this holiday. If they can sell several million this holiday and be able to cut manufacturing costs enough to earn a profit off the PS3 they will be happy losing 2% of the market to Microsoft.
Still to early to call. Cut this "OMFG the PS3 is DEAD" talk. In two years when we see the Wii having 70% marketshare I think we all can just say "OMFG the PS3 and 360 are both dead!!!"
