You asked for proof, and here is such proof. One of many falsehoods perpetrated by Sony. Sadly due to the size of Sony no large scale reputable media called Sony on its blatant lying. Unlike Microsoft of Nintendo that just offer no comment as an answer. Sony does indeed lie. In fact there are hundreds of documented lies. I think every long time member of these forums is still waiting for a thousand dollars for documented photos of PS3 languishing on shelves in January of 06.

TOKYO, July 6 (Reuters) - Sony Corp. (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research) has no plans to cut the price of its PlayStation3 (PS3) at present to pep up demand and counter surging sales of Nintendo's (7974.OS: Quote, Profile, Research) rival game console Wii, Sony's president said on Friday.

"At present we have no plans," to cut the PS3 price, Ryoji Chubachi told Reuters in an interview.

Sony has packed cutting-edge technology such as a Blu-ray high-definition optical disc player into the PS3, driving up production costs and making its retail price more than twice as expensive as the Wii.

The higher price tag has been cited has one of the main reasons the PS3 has been trailing the Wii in sales, and analysts have been widely expecting Sony to soon slash the price to spur on demand.

Chubachi also said that Sony was on track to hit its target of a 5 percent operating margin for the year to March 2008.

He also said the operating margin at its mainstay electronics unit is likely to overshoot its target of 4 percent for the current year.

July 9, 2007 - Rumor has become truth this morning, as Sony Computer Entertainment has confirmed that it will slashing the price of the 60GB PlayStation 3 model, while also introducing a new 80GB model in the US and Canada.

The 60GB version, previously priced at $599 US ($659 CND), has been lowered to $499 US ($549 CND) starting immediately. The 80GB SKU, already available in Korea, will ship on our side of the pond with MotorStorm packed in.

Sony also confirmed that it plans on shipping more than 120 new first and third-party games in North America throughout the holidays and fiscal year.

Point. Set. Match.

Anyway, I know there are even better articles out there but if you put anything with Ps3 or price in a search bar all you get are the new rumors
