Twilight Princess was a bit dull at the beginning, but it has some of the most memorable moments in the entire series. The big fights on horseback were among the most exhilarating experiences I've ever had playing a game.
On a side note, I went through something similar to what the poster went through playing Final Fantasy VII. I had gotten all the way to Sephiroth's next to last form and the game crashed. I still had my save file, but I just didn't feel like playing it any more and eventually I lost my save file. I never played it again.
