Nintendo is a favorite target, it's true. In the eyes of big companies, they don't belong in the market because they should not have the kind of clout they do. The fact that they survived the GameCube era is nothing short of astounding, when you consider how quickly Sega was wiped off the board.

The big companies fear the little companies who can hold their own, because it's the little companies who shake things up and force everybody else to change. Big companies would be perfectly happy making sustaining upgrades to their products for all eternity without ever changing their formulas. Little companies have to change the formulas to stay alive. And big companies can't adapt to change as easily as little companies, if at all.

They pile on the hate because they're afraid. Afraid of disruption, afraid of change, afraid of what's happening all around them now. Nintendo is a target because Nintendo represents everything that big companies hate about market dynamics.
