The growth of the german market comes mainly from Nintendos impact. Nintendo is huge here, and the Wii is really selling to casual gamers.

Additionally the DS seems to be the best selling console/handheld ever here. It is clearly dumping the GBA and gets a lot of attention here. Brain Training and other casual titles are heavily advertised in Germany and the latest trend is consoles over PC. Untill 2001 the PC market was bigger than the console market here, but this trend reversed with the success of the PS2 and the Nintendo DS.

If you take a look at the Wii numbers you will notice they nearly doubled since the first quarter. The Wii really has a chance to beat the PS2 as the best selling console ever over here. It became the new standart casual consoles. Two years ago when someone talked about buying a console, they bought a PS2. Now they buy a Wii instead. The whole market turned upside down.
