The only way that could be true, is if B and C only pick out very specific points from A's patent, which don't exist in each other's. From what I have seen, these patents are usually just mention controling something on screen with a physical motion. Very generic and all very close to each other's designs. It seems to me they are just going after the deep pockets.

It doesnt work that way because those companies aren't making money off of the invention. Companies can't sue you because you had an idea to use something. The can only sue you when you start using that idea to make money.
