Good to know about the HDMI mod.  I don't think I would need to worry about (if I do get an XBox360) since my AV receiver can accept DTS, DD and PCM over HDMI.

I was under the impression that both the PS3 and XBox360 rendered their games in 720p and just upconverted to 1080p.  If this is the case then converting to 1080p would not improve the picture at all unless the XBox360 has a better scaler than your HDTV (highly unlikely).  In fact it could actually decrease picture quality if your HDTV does not have a native resolution of 1920x1080 pixels.  (If the XBox360 can render higher resolutions than component can support then upconverting to 1080p before sending it to the HDTV would probably generate a better image).

 

I know that Gran Turismo 5 is natively in 1080p along with at least 1 basketball game, but I really don't care all that much myself since I only have a 720p TV. As for X360 games, I don't have a clue.
