1st off: Halo did not copy UT2004 considering UT2004 is about 5 times faster than Halo could ever wish to be and 20 times more interesting and fun. UT2004 is currently the best multiplayer game on the market and it will be a while before anyone dethrones it it seems.

2nd off: Tribes was an AMAZING game and I loved it with all my heart, but I felt the original UT beat it out that same year. UT had no vehicles and stuff but dear god the speed and the fun you could have with it. Both UT and Tribes came out ON THE EXACT SAME DAY. It was a GLORIOUS day for for FPS fans, and one I doubt will ever be topped again in my lifetime. UT2004 copied UT + some Battlefield and Tribes sprinkled in, but mostly UT99.

3rd off: I just feel good inside every time I say this, HL2 is currently the best SINGLE player and I enjoy it every time I play through it.

Well sales of Halo compared to UT would certanly say otherwise when it comes to which one is more interesting and fun.

I kinda understand why you dislike Halo now. You're all about speed... Unreal Tounament always seemed like a game where you run firing like a madman on crystal meth. However, because of that speed, UT series loses a lot of strategy found in multiplayer compared to games Halo.

I think you need to look up amateur and professional matches then... if there are still videos... if not CS matches can be a good replacement search since they require just as much planning on who covers whose back while doing w/e the objective is.

I'm sure UT has quite a big hardcore gaming following and those guys can squeze the most out of the game on videos. However the UT games I played (casually) lacked some basic strategies found in halo.

Weapon matchups for example. The whole game of Halo multiplayer is based on starting with shit weapons and collecting the few good ones first and keeping them for as long as possible. As long as you have those weapons your team will have much higher chance of winning the match. UT games have amazing weapons scatered all over the map and they respawn much quicker...meaning that everyone has amazing weapons within 30 seconds.

Also, I want to note that I've played all Unreal Tournament games on consoles. UT on dreamcast, UT2003 on xbox and UT3 on 360...and at that speed, it really doesn't work with a controller. Halo slowed it down for a reason...it was a console game.

The fact everyone has a good weapon of some sorts is part of the fun. The person who has the better aim and dodge and ability to use them correctly ultimately wins, there's no fun in going toe to toe with someone when they have a better gun than you, it's better to just haul ass and leave it at that. And given the shield regen system that's all too easy in Halo. Basically jusr run around corners until you find a suitable weapon.

OT: The hover boats and the buggies are exactly the reason why HL2 is so amazing and the best FPS out there. The parts set the pacing absolutely perfectly so that when you do a major fight you feel good about it and not, "ph i just did this 2 minutes ago too." I loved Ravenholm, what's not to like in a zombie infested town where the only survivor is a priest with a gun? If I want to just go and shoot people non-stop I have UT2004, which is a far better shooter in terms of non-stop action than any other shooter out there by miles and miles and miles. For me UT2004/HL2 is a holy duo of sorts at the moment. What one lacks the other one has in aces.
