Any time I read about The Conduit and HVS, my belief that it's incredibly important that this game sells well solidifies. Not just sell well, but explode out of the launch gates and has relatively good legs.
Let's be honest - all 3rd party developers are watching this game. They are all watching to see if it will actually sell well. This game will give them the final proof that the Wii can move "Core" titles if the effort and polish is put into a game. This game can reverse the current developer mindset that the Wii is just "A shovelware platform" where they can make a quick buck.
The ball is in Sega's court now. We on the internet know of this game, but the masses do not. If Sega can break out a kick ass advertising campaign, market the game well and ensure its success, we can be assured that every single 3rd party dev out there will really start hammering the Wii with the truly great software we've been waiting for.
If this game doesn't sell at least 600k in the first week (and move onto becoming a million+ seller in the future), I will be severely disappointed.

And that's there big problem. They keep waiting for someone else to do it for them haha. GH did it before RB and that property will forever suffer on the Ninty platforms unless it really changes its approach. Konami waited with Pro Evo Soccer and got lucky with a great game to release later but then screwed up by not once, but twice releasing it after it was supposed to release.
So now we have those watching the Conduit when instead of watching they shouldn't wait to see if a dev has success but whether or not they can beat that dev to success. This is why Sega, who's been very aggressive with the Wii platform, has seen some of the most success as a Wii developer. Same with Ubisoft and Activision with a couple of their properties.
I have no doubt in my mind that The Conduit will do well... I mean there is just too many good things going for it for it to not do 2 million at least, but don't hold me to that. And when that happens the 3rd parties that are waiting will forever be behind because of it. Because no longer will they have the opportunity to have the FPS that defined the Wii console as now it will be Conduit and Red Steel instead of whatever the rest could think of. And here's basically how it'll go down:
Cautious Devs- "wow I didn't believe you could do that on the Wii"
Sega and High Voltage Software- "And that is why you fail."

I agree Zucas 100%. But the thing that is funny Sega is still a bit skeptical about trending new water too. In this article I found from gameindustry.biz, Darren Williams an A&R from Sega gives you the impression that they even have that idea that "3rd Parties" don't sell.

...I think it's unfortunate that ONE GAME has to basically be the determining factor as to whether or not a console will be viable in the future. =/

I agree that it's quite unfortunate that one game has to be the determining factor here--I mean, where would Sony be right now if developers watched sales of Heavenly Sword or Warhawk to gauge how they would sell on PS3?
However, I do believe that Nintendo realizes the importance being placed upon this game, and how it could affect their image with the core gamer. Remember, it was pretty much all they showed at their American Fall Conference. I think SEGA and Nintendo will be hyping this game up pretty heavily in the month or so before it comes out.
Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?
