There's nothing wrong with what he said. Microsoft made a terrible oversight this generation, with one of the highest product failure rates in history. He has every right to be more reserved about a purchase next generation.

It's still really annoying, and generally it takes a few weeks to get the xbox back, though that may vary from country to country. What happens if in another 3 years it gets RRoD? Then you would be annoyed
