I love Gothic 3, it is massive, pretty and easily the most fun I've had in a RPG in years. Better than Oblivion? Hell yes, a lot more fun and engaging! There are several patches out that smooth out most of the bumps and scratches the game has/had.
I recommend it highly for any action RPG fan! 
PS: There is one thing, you WILL tire of this phrase; "I see."
