The is of course true. If the applications you want to run all simply stream out the fibbinocci sequence then you don't even need to access shared memory at all. I am speaking of course of the general consensus in the architecture literature as to the needs of the "average" application. IBM group which designed the Xenon didn't choose a triple core layout because 1 more core was just too expensive.

 

 

i was not aware that was the reasoning of it, but it sounds right. the quad cores dont seems to be used often, and mainly in servers, or workstations where apps are designed to run multi cores such as mac pro, using say final cut
