I fully expect Sony to roll out a $299/299EUR model this autumn - this is the magic price point, the inflation-adjusted equivalent of $199 in 2000 dollars, where mass demand really takes off. Their cost reduction machine is running smoothly, so they won't be taking a big hit on the hardware.

Sony has been carefully preparing for this moment. Not only do they have a blockbuster roster of software available for the holiday season, ranging from MGS4 to LBP and R2, but BluRay has taken off, HDTVs are affordable, and the PS3 has become a true next-gen media hub, thanks to TV and movie downloads, trophies and multiplayer, and user-created spaces like Home. This holiday season should be spectacular...

they simply can not afford to do it... it would cause too much cacaos in the investor poll and might even lead to a shake up, its simple they promised they wouldnt to stock holders and they need to stick to it, even if they loses market share, after this year they can make a major cut and try and roll next year, its part of the reason they only set 10 mill as the goal so they could beat it, and restore confidence then go out on a limb and bet more for the next year.

I have posted my thoughts on blueray in other threads, yes i think it will do well this year, but next winter will be the first true winter of blueray, hd tvs are still just a bit out there, and i feel the digital switchover in 09 will speed things up
