Nerds like you deserve someone to slap you and teach you that no matter how great gaming can be, there way too many things in this world that deserves your attention. No one was there to slap me when I was in need of a slap so it took me 3 years to realize this alone.

Laurent Fischer comment was stupid indeed, but thats because he shouldn't say such things even if it's the pure truth. You should apreciate his honesty thou.

That depends on your personal ideals. I think gaming is a very important aspect of life, that serves intellectually, emotionally, artistically as well as pure entertainment. Many people read books tens of hours a weeks yet no one calls them out as nerds or otaku's at least definitely not in a negative sense.
