@Supernova: Why would Nintendo want to kill off the iPhone? Figure the motive out before thinking they would.
And no, it wouldn't. The idea in iPhone is it being "upgraded" iPod. Apple is targeting the people who bought the iPod to upgrade to iPhone, although, the two are complete opposite, where iPods strength was it being small, handy and cute, iPhone is big and bulky.
In any case, i can assure you, that iPhone is not a competition for DS, atleast not to an extent that it would interest Nintendo.
Who have bigger interest into the (possible) success of iPhone, are the phone manufacturers, such as Nokia, Sony-Ericsson etc., but even for them, iPhone, as it is now, isn't too much of competition.
