@Paul Warren: You don't seem to getting the issue here. You claim how something is alive due to its influence on something else. Then you claim that something else is dead, despite its influence.
The thing is, that the metal isn't anymore what it was. Despite some random retro band, like Metallica, still making records, doesn't mean that the genre itself would be alive and well, as it used to be. It doesn't even mean that Metallica would make the same music as it used to do. Analogy with Megaman 9 would be pretty good, even that the Megaman 9 got released and broke sales records on the platform, it doesn't mean that 2D gaming would be alive and well, or that the 2D gaming even were what it was.
