Buy used games if the game is OK. Buy new if it's great, and support the developer making more quality sequels.
As for buying from GameFly - That's a tough one. On one hand, they support a lot of smaller developers by buying copies of lesser-known titles (my Blockbuster is the only place I can find copies of Earth Defense Force 2017), so it's not all bad. They are buying copies from developers too.
Just ask yourself "Do I want a sequel of this game bad enough to pay retail?"
