I am actually not too far, I'm in the middle of Block 2, can't remember the date off the top of my head.
I'll look into getting Nocture. That was actually another question I had, if I should play Nocture, DDS or Devil Summoner:RK vs The SA. Although I remember reading that the latter was a departure from previous games and has real time fighting. I think DDS also has a direct sequel IIRC.
Oh and for the record, I joined the Kendo team.
