Actually, I never had that hard of a time with Pico, in this game or any other. Maybe it's the fact that he's well-nigh indestructible in this one, but with him I forgo my usual tactics and just start charging and ramming everything in sight. No need to turn quickly when you can just bounce off the rails, and no need to go quickly when you've eliminated all the other racers.
As an added bonus, you're roleplaying the whole time!
