The Xbox360 price cut is more of a threat to PS3 sales than Wii sales. The "now lower than the Wii" Arcade package has never been all that popular since it totally lacks a harddrive. Might as well save yourself some money and get an Xbox with an HDD built in, because you're going to need it eventually.
Nintendo claims that demand is dropping a bit and that production numbers are way up--they currently believe that they will find equillibrium around by the end of this year.... which happens to coincide with the holidays, so that's unlikely. If they meant "by the end of this fiscal year," then it could be likely.
The only remaining hardcore gamers that don't know about the Wii's 2009 "tons of hardcore" line-up are the stern "haters," and the ignorant. Next year will see 3rd party companies giving hardcore gamers more than enough reason to pony up the dough to have a Wii. Most consoles can make themselves worth owning by having 3-5 "must have" titles. The Wii can easily fill that. The only people who don't admit that simply don't want to.
Metroid Prime 3
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
The Conduit
MadWorld
Fatal Frame IV
House of the Dead: Overkill
Tales of Symphonia
Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attactive People
These titles either currently make the Wii worth owning, or are very likely to add to that worth. A storage solutions looks as though it may finally be coming around (let's hope it's not retarded like a some "virtual harddrive"), voice chat is coming, new peripherals are stopping, and unique new titles (Deadly Creatures, MadWorld, Castlevania: Judgement, etc) are coming. By the end of 2009, anyone still dismissing* the Wii is clearly not a real hardcore (and no, this isn't a bad thing to be, just some people make it bad) gamer. It's the perfect compliment to an Xbox360, PC, or PS3 since the Wii offers a lot of stuff not coming to those three as they share an awful lot of their titles.
*Not owning it is different from blindly dismissing it. You're "gamerness" can still be apparent if you don't own a Wii by the end of 2009, but if you're still whining and dismissing the thing, you're probably not a gamer. Probably ust some sort of whiney bitch.
