That's one of the reasons Sony entered the handheld market. They realized they couldn't kill Nintendo by just winning on the home console front.

Belike (although I think you're overestimating Sony's hatred of Nintendo if you think the PSP exists just to wipe Nintendo out). But even if Nintendo didn't have the Gameboy, I'm pretty confident they would've been able to pull a profit from their consoles or, at the very most, a small loss. Remember, this is a company that's always sold it's hardware for a profit, and which has always made a ton of money off its software. I stand by my statement: if Sega was better managed, it would not have been forced out of the console business.
