@Zen that would make it "niche and unpopular" on both platforms meaning that wouldn't make a difference.

When a game this bad can sell 300k units, there is a hungry fanbase back there somewhere, besides the fact that Final Fantasy is one of the few videogame franchises that could be considered "mainstream" and "beloved?" It's easier to call shooters niche, because there is at least one region that dislikes those. There is no doubt that JRPGs aren't niche in the videogame world, as long as Japan exists, and Final Fantasy(and most every square enix game for that matter) manages to sell millions of copies, and churn up tons of hype. If you wanna talk about America, that's a different story. My opinion still maintains that the genre is one of the most popular in the states, and by no means niche, however.

Everything I say manages to find at least one person to disagree with me lately.

Edit: Oh, you were thinking that I was using the "niche and unpopular" think to explain or perhaps damage control the PS3's victory in the sales race for the game. No, I assure you that I care very little about that, and didn't have it in mind when I made my comment. The PS3 almost certainly sells JRPGs better than any other console. The reason I originally bought one was for JRPGs, afterall. Back then I saw the Xbox as a FPShooter machine, even though I had an original Xbox that I enjoyed relatively well.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.
