Here's the issue: For all the analysis, and PS3 fanboy hopes and dreams, the past 3 weeks prove that there is no clear-cut winner in the X360 vs. PS3 wars. The PS3 gets a price drop, it leads. The X360 gets a price drop, it wins. The whole issue is that neither console has real traction against the other. But what is the case, is that the Xbox 360 still has a lead of roughly 5,450,000 units, and may grow for the next 2-3 weeks, even without a true price drop. And despite every Sony fanboy's proclaimation about awesome exclusives, MGS4 has been the only game ever to give the PS3 a major hardware boost. Likewise, the X360 has only had Halo do a similar thing. So this tells me what neither console is going to gain significant ground on the other, unless price drop(s) occur. We can argue about the legitimacy of the X360 pricecut that is rumored to happen on the 7th. However, what we do know is that the temporary pricecut in the US has solidifed the X360 sales for 3 weeks now. Again, this points to the central fact that price trumps games. And in a price war, who has the more favorable positioning - Microsoft or Sony? The answer is, Microsoft. So because of that, it's very unlikely that the Playstation 3 will outsell the Xbox 360 until the prices become very close, which is either a long way off, or a stupid move by MS and a smart move by Sony.
Altogether, we have: 1) A 5,450,000 unit lead by the Xbox 360 as of Today 2) A battle between the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 that we can determine neither can win without price drops, or very rare exclusives 3) A shifting battle So if the battle is neutral, why aren't we to take that gigantic 5.4m lead, and realize that it's going to take a lot of moves by Sony to ever get past the Xbox 360?
