When will Microsoft ditch gamertag?

I think one of the biggest flaws in the TC's argument is that MS is going to use avatars instead of gamertag. The gamertag will still be used primarily. For some reason he thinks MS has copied Nintendo's entire system which imo would be a huge step backwards.
