I got both and I can tell you that you will need a guide for those games since sometimes you are required to talk to certain people or obtain and item so its best that you can read abit of japanese for these games. That said Soma bringer requires you to talk to alot of people before moving to the next area to fight and and gather information to progress. The game advance in chapters and you can check how many more objective are needed to move on to next chapter. As for ToI it has a great storyline so you would be missing out if you are playing it in Jap. Other than that, I recommend both games if you don't mind missing out on storylines since you can get a guide online for that.
