Demand for games consoles in Europe isn't as high as in America or Japan. This is true of all consoles/handhelds, not just the Wii.
I bought a Wii last weekend, from Virgin. They had a pretty good deal going. I also tried the Game store in the same shopping centre and they were sold out, although their deals are very poor value, and I got the impression that happens quite often. So even though you can get a Wii if you look around, I think plenty of shops are still selling out.
