Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What do you want in a Switch 2?

  • More powerful hardware, above PS4 level. 1080p screen.
  • Proper activity log, redone eShop
  • Rethought joycons. I love their design as is, but the hardware is incredibly unreliable.
  • Ability to backup saves locally, preferably to SD.
  • Better battery, hopefully around 5-6 hours.
  • Same price as the Switch.

At least PS4 specs, PS4 Pro specs if it's possible for the size and battery of a hybrid
Needs at least 500GB of internal storage. 32GB is beyond pathetic
Launch with YouTube, Hulu, Twitch, Netflix, Disney+, and an Internet Browser
Return of the Virtual Console
Achievements, Proper Voice Chat and Networking Features
Free games each month like PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold
Backwards compatibility with the Switch, duh.
Double kickstand, felt in the dock to prevent wear and tear

Pretty good list.

Yeah somewhere maybe between PS4 and PS4 Pro specs. I imagine docked it'd be pretty close to PS4 Pro to provide 4k res, and portable more like a base PS4 running on maybe a 900p or 1080p screen. I think the main problem will be how much power that uses. I know there is a big breakthrough in battery technology going on now but I don't know how many years it'll be until it's actually industry ready. New battery tech is supposed to be twice the power density of current lithium batteries. If that became available in the next two years to be included in Switch 2 that could help a lot for both a slightly higher performing system and longer battery life.

I'd love a 500gb storage, though knowing Nintendo I'm just hoping for 256 and expecting 128 haha. 256 would be real nice, as that is already more than I have including my sd card and I still have plenty of storage left with almost 30 games downloaded.

Could care less about apps. Really like why would I run any of these apps on a video game system when I already have a laptop?! I guess some people like to do that but there isn't a real compelling reason for this other than "the other guys do it". Video games systems are to play games on. I'd much rather have Nintendo use their time and money on things to improve the gaming experience than throw a bunch of apps on the system, which would probably mean more RAM dedicated to the OS (like how PS4 and XboxOne has a ton of RAM for the OS compared to the Switch) and therefore less RAM for the actual purpose of the system: gaming!

VC sucks compared to the Switch's subscription service. As long as they roll over the game lineup from the Switch to the Switch 2 and continue adding games, going back to the VC would be a huge step backwards. The only problem with the current retro game service is they are adding systems too slowly, they should totally have GB/GBC and N64 on there by now (and bring back Genesis too hopefully). I wish the service cost like 50% more if that would make them prioritize getting more systems and games on there.

Agreed on achievement, networking, and voice chat. I've never used achievements but everybody seems to love them so I'm sure that'd be a popular addition. And please let Switch 2 finally be the time when Nintendo gets networking and voice chat done right!

Free games is always nice haha, but I don't see Nintendo ever doing that. They don't even drop their years old games from full price. So free games seems unlikely haha. Although when Tetris 99 dropped for free I thought that was the coolest thing so yeah I'd love to have a free game drop every once in a while.

Backwards compatibility is a must, and yeah double kickstand would be good. I don't know how often people use the kickstand, I've only used it a few times, but its a little awkward since it isn't in the center. Either one stronger kickstand in the center of the system or two of the current kickstand would be fine.

I want a "normal" console (no gimicky controller...oh man do I despise the "normal" switch controller) but just with the awesome Nintendo games.

It honestly could probably get by quite easily with the base PS4 specs, come out at a much lower price than the new consoles, and I'd buy it in a second.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

The main thing I fear with the Switch 2 is that Nintendo tries to reinvent the wheel like they do almost every generation.  That instinct is good when their consoles are selling poorly, but since Switch is successful they don't need to change the core philosophy behind it.  Basically just make it a more powerful Switch.  Third party companies already see that the basic concept is successful, so the devs supporting Switch at the end of it's life can be ready to support the Switch 2 from the very beginning.  Specifically:

1. Release date 2023 or 2024
2. Up the power level significantly.  PS4 Pro level sound about right.
3. Make it backwards compatible.
4. Improve the joy-cons, so there is no more drift.
5. Bigger hard drive.
6. Launch it with Breath of the Wild 3.
7. Price point $300 or less.

Switch docked = 393 Gflops
Base PS4 = 1,840 Gflops.

"more like 2-2,25"

You need to stop bullsh*tting and spreading false info.

1840 / 393 = 4,7x performance differnce.

Now you can aruge that Nvidia flops are like 20% better than AMD ones in terms of graphics performance, compaired to the calculation numbers it can do...

Flops is irrelevant.
Switch = Maxwell.
Playstation 4 = Graphics Core Next.

A GTX 960 based on Maxwell with 2.36 Teraflops of single precision floating point capability...
Is able to beat a Radeon 7970 with 3.78 Teraflops of single precision floating point capability.

That is a 60% flop advantage to the 7970.

https://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1722?vs=1744

Bandwidth is irrellevent as well.

The GTX 960 has 112GB/s verses the 7970's 264GB/s or 135% more bandwidth.

In your ideal fantasy world a GPU with 60% more flops and 135% more bandwidth should win, right? I mean... Right?

Bandwidth matters, as you start running higher resolutions.
So while that 960 might beat a 7970 at like 720p, I bet you once you start running 1440p, it has the advantage right?
Probably because of that 135% more memory bandwidth.

Would you look at that, a factory OCed 960, is slower than a stock 7970 at 1440 on avg.
Stock to stock, its around 17%.

*edit: actually this review, shows the 960 is slower than the 7970 on all resolutions they tested.

Do I want something I can constantly take with me on the go and also slip into a dock? Yes. I don't want to go back to the old ways. But it could look very different for all we know. Could be foldable technology, could have wireless charging only, could be 4k, 8k, 1080p screen, could have bigger or smaller sticks, could have a whole list of variation including the name. As long as it does the first request I'm happy.

They tried with phones, and the failure rate was insanely high.
Was it samsung? that ended up costing them a fortune.....

I think Nintendo want their products to be basically fail safe, and kid friendly.... so thats probably not gonna happend.
Wireless chargeing, should be a thing though.

I could imagine Switch 2, at the power of a base PS4 (docked), is able to upscale to 4k, its own games.
Mario gonna look good in 4k, on Switch 2 :)

No screen, just a home console so it can have maximum hardware within affordability. 100% compatible with the current Switch (Lite).

Why not both?
Make a cheap PS TV version, of the Switch 2.

I think Nintendo should keep their current hybrid concept.

Achievements would be nice. It is crazy how Nintendo still does not have them
