I hate Cloud more and more everyday thanks to the hype machine.

Hey, hate the hype, not Cloud! He hasn't done anything wrong

I agree with the rest of your post, however; FF7 needs to be left alone, especially since Squeenix seem to be having a enough trouble nowadays making new games that the fans like. 7 ain't broke, so they shouldn't go trying to fix it. Actually, they can remake 2D games; all they really have to do is make them 3D, so there's a smaller risk of messing up.

Also, I can't believe that no-one has mentioned Chrono Trigger! (or maybe someone has and I wasn't paying attention) It's the best 2D game by Square IMO, and they wouldn't have to spend a penny; they'd just have to stop sending C&Ds to fan groups on condition that Square have all the rights to whatever remake they have in the works.

I agree with best 2D game by Square (or best game period), but I love it in its original form. This is kind of what bothers me - I don't feel 2D is inferior to 3D, in fact I tend to prefer it over 3D - it's got its own charm, and it makes the game move much quicker (better overall gameplay). The difference between 2D and 3D is not unlike manga vs anime, I think. With 2D/manga I get to blow through far more content in a shorter amount of time.

Take FFIV DS - it brought some great things with it, sure, but I can't say I'd want the same done for CT or FFVI. Everything is just so much slower... if you compare gameplay footage of the SNES and DS versions, you might be surprised. The FFIV remake was still decent, mainly because the original had a dated interface, while the GBA version's music sucks. On the other hand, CT has already been updated on the DS, and it's perfect. The way the game flows (speeding through areas, talking while moving, no load times, etc) has a lot to do with why I think it's the best RPG ever.

I say, leave the 2D greats alone! If these must be remade, update the interface, resolution, 2D art, and possibly improve dialogue / add animated cutscenes (even though I personally keep the CT ones off). I'm sure this is probably impossible, as the costs wouldn't match the sales, but... whatever! My other unlikely hope is for 3D remakes that move as fast as the 2D originals, but I don't see that happening.

It's a shame we're stuck entirely with the anime-like games, I want my "manga!" Nowadays it's always realistic 3D graphics taking precedence over everything, even if it makes the games 3x slower
(FFIX or LO are the worst offenders I've seen, you can tell how bad the loads are from the battle themes, lol)

Basically my reaction.

Looking at FF13 being slightly below a FF game, and a lot below the first mainline Final Fantasy game in sales...

PS3 would definitly not be worth it.

Actually the PS3 is the best pick for this gen. If it was on the Wii it wouldn't really be much of a remake, the graphics would only be slightly improved. If it was on the X360 sales would be horrible in Japan, where the game obviously would do best at. And that leaves the PS3, it would be the best console to make the game look as good as possible, and it'll do pretty good in Japan (even if the PS3 has sales of over 10 million in Japan I highly doubt the game would sell over 2 million, it is a remake it wont outsell the original, so an install base of 4.5 million right now would be just right, and it's clearly not in the making right now and knowing SE it'll likely take 3 or 4 years to make so by then the install base of the PS3 would be definitely over 10 million). Not to mention it was a console exclusives for a Sony console.

But me personally I'd rather wait till nex gen just so the game would look that much better, I've waited 10 years so I can wait a few more.

Go look back at the bolded sentence in my original post.

Though I disagree.  The Wii wouldn't be HD, but it'd be better then the PS3 in that there would be a decent chance it wold make money... and would make more money.

Either isn't a prime choice though... hence why there is no reason they would remake it this gen.  Honestly if they "remade" it this gen i'd expect it to be a slight port up to DS or PSP.

Also, to say it wouldn't be much of a remake... played FF7 lately?  It has the visuals of Ballz 3D.

Thank god.
I'd much rather have them make new, quality stuff.

Like I said if it's going to be the PS3 it'd take a few years to make so by the time it releases the sales for the PS3 in Japan (and worldwide) would be very respectable. And either way this game is going to make a lot of money no matter what console it get's made on. Releasing it on the PSP would be suicide (since the PSP is horrible for selling software), and the DS would be a bad choice aswell because most owners probably never heard of FFVII to begin with.

But ignoring the install base of a console I don't expect this game so sell over 5 million it's a remake there not known to outsell the original version, especially the highest selling game of the series.

It makes sense to release it on the PS3.
