Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Bitterness in the Wii fandom?

LoL, some folks never quit.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

The third party on PS3 are doing the same thing as Sony does.

Want racing ?

Sony and third party do it ( GT)

Sport ?

Sony and third party do it (MLB the show)

FPS :

Sony and third party do it ( resistance, KZ2)

Platforming ?

Sony and third party do it (R&C,LBP )

Action/adventure ?

Sony and third party do it (Uncharted)

Hack and slash ?

Sony and third party do it (GoW)

RPG ?

Sony doesn't do it but moneyhat it , third party do it ( WKC, FF)

Now what does Nintendo do ?

Mario, Zelda, more Mario, party games, fitness games

Are you kidding me, with that bolded? No, seriously?

Racing: MK Wii
Sports: Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, Strikers Charged
FPA: Metroid Prime 3
Action/Adv: Zelda: Twilight Princess
RPG: Fire Emblem, Super Paper Mario (?)
Fighting: Super Smash Bros
Platforming: Super Mario Galaxy, Wario Land:Shake it, NSMB Wii

... All the while these games' sales destroy the Sony games you listed. Do you think these games somehow don't count because they have Nintendo characters in them? Hell I'd say this is a great example of how bias people are against Nintendo. Apparently none of the games they make counts.

Third parties are not making the games on the PS3 because they're following Sony's lead. Hell, I'd say Sony is pretty damn lucky they had the X360 to rely on to justify ports in its early life. Without it who knows how it would have performed.

Well, anyway... I'm annoyed at third parties treating us like garbage, and it's pretty annoying seeing Wii detractors here act as if the third parties are innocent. I will say, though, I'm not necessarily pissed off that we're not getting any games. I have a backlog of games as it is because I entered this gen late (WoW > time), and I'll probably only get to play half of the 2010 releases I want to at this point.

Still, I noticed people arguing here have gotten way too caught up in technology. I think this is the problem of the industry, everyone assumes games need to be pushing hardware, when that actually doesn't matter at all. The only thing that matters is the overall fun / entertainment the game brings. This doesn't mean the game can look like crap, though - look at Nintendo games for an example. The Wii series has its own charm to it, with the Mii's and all (which people love). They didn't create this style out of laziness. In fact, I (and likely the majority) prefer it to X360 Avatars or PS3's Home characters. Realistic =/= better.

Personally, I'm a huge fan of 2D games. Castle Crashers is nearly my favorite HD this game (no joke). Now, after seeing the phenomenal sales of NSMB Wii and other platformers, you'd expect we'd get something like a full fledged 2D Sonic on the Wii, right? Why doesn't Sega make it? Do the developers simply don't want to? Or, do they lack the talent? Can developers no longer get by without the crutches of graphics? You can't deny a game like this would sell like hotcakes on the Wii, and this even follows the "copy what Nintendo does" plan.

There are some getting it right, I'd say. For example, NBA Jam is a good fit for Wii owners, and something I'm happy to see (looks like a game they may put effort in). We need more of that kinda stuff! I'm sure some Wii owners are asking for more, but realistically I know that's impossible (from most western developers, anyway - they're useless). At least I've got Epic Mickey to look forward to!

Well, it's the 3rd parties who has fucked up, and they keep blaming the Wii. At some point, enough is enough.

"so MONSTER HUNTER 3 sold less than a 1/3 of what it has sold on the PSP"

No, it sold that amount to one game. The first PSP game is only a few hundred thousand behind.

"Save money, buy a HD system, and enjoy the games."

It's not about me playing those games. It's about the Wii having third party support. There is a difference.

"cry moar.

unfair argument.

unfair.

argument.

pathetic."

This is what it boils down to? If you really could disprove that you would have tried (and trying it now doesn't count since I had to call you on it).

Monster hunter 3 took 6 months to sell the initial shipment, that's the reality of the game.......

Is that what the publisher was expecting ? Nope..

MH3 is pay to play and has outsold all console MH games as well as the PC game, the PSP games are free to play, comparing their sales is like comparing FFXI's sales to the DS remakes, that initial shipment is more then what 90% of online games sell in total even the likes of FFXI and PSU combined. Even then MH3 has outsold most pay to play games just being in one region alone, 1 million customers paying a subscription is what many online game companies dream of, simply bringing up the PSP games is being out of touch as MH3 is still making them money after sale and probably more then what the PSP games have made them.

The portability issue and piracy is why the games aren't working on the PSP, not the specs.

Again, Monster Hunter 3 is a watered down version of what it could have been on the PS3. That obviously didn't matter.

so MONSTER HUNTER 3 sold less than a 1/3 of what it has sold on the PSP. Even more if you check the current japanese charts Monster Hunter PSP is currently outselling Monster Hunter 3 and the reason for that is that the PSP version provides an unique experience that the WII cannot replicate.

So a game 2+ years old is selling more than the latest iteration, as I said before japanese gamers like Monster Hunter on the PSP because it allows them to play together whenever and wherever they want and thats something the console Monster Hunter cannot replicate and is made pathetic by comparison.

So  an unique experience that cannot be replicated by a console = portable game success.

Bad Example WII Fighter.

Btw, you know that MH3 outsold the PS2 version already, and it hasn't even hit the Americas or Others yet, right? Look at PS2 install base compared to Wii (roughly 50% of the PS2 userbase), MH3 is quite a success for a console game.

The last 1st party game I bought was Wii Fit, 90% of my game library is 3rd party, if that gives you an idea on my stand.

Of course the WII has many 3rd party games that are pure quality and very good, however the WII fighters dont care about them, they ignore and neglect the support they do get while complaining why imaginary game X doesnt get a main entry on the WII.

I don't get whats so new to people on the issue. Look at the GameCube, didn't get much 3rd party support, but had some great games. Nintendo will never get the 3rd party support Sony gets. There is an ingrained hatred between these fans, almost like a videogame racism. When some of those fans go out into the world and get jobs in the game industry, they carry their bias and refuse to develop games for that specific system. It's all pretty childish.

@dunno001 why should they put any more effort than what Nintendo does with their own games? You ask nintendo for games and they do what? throw you another one of the SAME bones?

I'm not asking for more effort, I'm asking for a comparable effort. They're assigning B and C teams to making spinoffs. This is not equivilant to Nintendo's AAA efforts. And then those B and C games are released to the market to die- no marketing, no hype, no nothing. They have no right to complain about sales if they're not going to actually try to make a good game, let alone sell it. Of course, like any rule, there are exceptions. Note the exceptions, though; they're all niche games. Some people here complain about the sales on them, but the developers, knowing that they're niche, seem to be happy. Why's that? They may not be AAA games, but they are A games for a niche, and they were marketed to sell.

As for Nintendo, they're not throwing just the same bones like you claim. Yes, there is the NPC line, I won't deny that. But what they are good at doing is throwing like-shaped bones. If we see a Super Mario game, we know what to expect. Likewise with Zelda. Metroid? Check. Those of us who've been around a while know what we are getting. The same can not be said of the 3rd party games on the Wii, due to the sheer number of spinoffs. Oh, and Nintendo's not the only party guilty of throwing out the same bones, some of the 3rd parties do that also. In fact, most 3rd party sequels, not just on the Wii, are more closely linked than Nintendo's sequel "bones". But that's an argument for another thread...

-On a quest for the truly perfect game; I don't think it exists...

Did I read someone saying that maybe Nintendo should make an FPS?

The day Nintendo make some generic piece of garbage FPS just to satisfy the grunts that buy into that market, is the day that gaming officially dies.

VGChartz

^^^ Nintendo technically made a FPS, Geist. Was pretty decent on the GC. I think they just were the publishers tho.

If Nintendo perfectly supports itself and 3rd parties help supporting Sony and MS, everybody should be happy...
...Or not?
