Forums - Sales Discussion - As the market leader, do the wii get the respect it deserved?

Although the Wii is the market leader, it doesnt seem to get the respect from the gaming community (industry) + media as opposed to the HD twins. The hd twins seems to be the mascot/face of gaming, and the wii is simply disregarded or ignored.

3 main reason IMO for this.

1) it lacks innovation in regards to alot of gaming aspects (graphics etc)

2) Third parties are just not selling, relative to its marketshare.

3) its has a more casual demograhic as oppose to the traditional " gaming" demograhic

nope.

it's becuase the Wii is contrary to the technological dictatorship. The other companies, none of them really get it including the third parties.

Regardless, it deserves respect because it saved the industry for starters. Witho

What are you talking about??

X360 is the market leader, according to Major Nelson.

You naughty boy :3

Ha, not even close.. You would think the Wii is the Virtual Boy with the amount of criticism it takes and lack of support it gets.

I find it a bit strange/sad/ironic that the most successful console of all time is currently receiving perhaps the worst 3rd party support of all time. It's depressing how ass-backwards and deranged this industry currently is.

Implying graphics, and draw distance, is the only merit of innovation. Well i guess MS is going to waste millions on a product that isn't innovative enough to be valuable to a consumer and win this generation.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

You know whats happening? The internet, fanboyism and bullshit labelling of casual gaming is influencing the game developers themselves. In the same way that the film industry is getting dumber (compare TF2 to Avatar and Terminator 2), the game industry is reacting to a shouting minority of vocal opinions.

WII has a LOT of recognition with the casuals. (sometimes too much)

on the hardcore side of things, its not faring as well as the 360 or the ps3.

but the majority of people are casuals, and for that i think yes, the wii is getting the respect that it deserves. (there's always going to be people that disrespect, its only natural, its the circle of life, you can't please everyone no matter how hard you try...)

lack of support from 3rd party's, other than that it gets plenty of respect, especially from the media and casual gamers

I think the respect of customers is a lot more important to Nintendo then the respect of the chattering classes.
