im sure lotsa people would like all three companies to work together on one console... man that would be nice. anything is possible. whos knows =P

Believe? No. Hope? No. They have done nothing but improve upon the console market but they have also lead a shift in support away from the PC as a gaming platform so I have slight reservations there.

They won't be leaving this business anytime soon, and if anyone hopes so, it's probably because they feel threatened.

No. Now Microsoft is MUCH more recognized on this market than before and they acquired a lot of experience. The xbox360 is having a powerful third party support and good sales.

The x360 sold more than the PS3 and Sony is on this market for a long time, this fact alone makes me think that they are doing really well.

What they need? Japan.

the only way i see microsoft stop making consoles is if they some how stay in the red this gen. (very doughtful unless thy launch a new console in 2010. if they launch one in like 2013 they probably make like 4 billion with the 360) and then there next console stays in the red.
on the other hand i think its just as likly that sony drops out. there in the hole like 5 billion and at best i see them loosing about 1 billion total and 4.5 billion at worst. if there next console is in the red as bad as the ps3 will be then i think they could be the ones to stop making consoles.
but do i want either one to stop making consoles. no. if there wasnt a ps3 right now we probably wouldnt have the same qaulity games on the 360.
