Can Avatar become the highest selling movie of all time?

After just two weeks it's already crossed the 1 Billion mark and it doesn't have any signs of slowing down. Titanic WW sales are at 1.835 billion. I think Avatar is going to have a shot at beating Titanic. If not it'll definitely be the second best selling movie of all time (LotR: Return of the King: 1.129 Billion).

That sure does shut a lot of people up claiming movies aren't as big as they use to be because of the internet.

Avatar currently at 1.018 Billion.

The amount a film costs to see these days compared to when Titanic was out, of course it has a chance of beating it. Let's see what it would do with ticket prices half the price.

Like Seece said, tickets cost more, and its in 3D in most theaters, which adds $2-$3 to each ticket, It could pass Titanic in profit, but not in the number of tickets

If you actually count tickets sold. I think Gone with the Wind is still #1.

In a long run, it's a no-brainer(yes).

I hope so

It will make at least 1.5 billion world wide plus it has no serious competition in the US until Mach 5th when Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland comes out so it will stay in the US top ten for at least another eight weeks. Also if it wins a couple of Oscars in February it could get another decent box office boost.

If you don't consider inflation, then yes, Avatar has a chance.

Wow I never thought that this title could even be challenged lol.
Avatar has the advantage of ticket price though.
Maybe even tickets sold though, as I know lots of people going to watch the movie twice, both the regular version and in 3D.

Highest selling and highest grossing are different things.

Avatar wont sell as many tickets as Titanic did.

It has a slim chance of beating Titanics 1.8 billion but its unlikely. However it will easily become the second highest grossing.
