Forums - Gaming Discussion - Moving onto next gen consoles - Which will be immediate purchases?

The current generation of consoles have now been out for quite some time and I think it's pretty obvious that in the next couple years we will see their next iterations release. With that said which next generation of consoles will you purchase immediately?

Without a doubt I will purchase the next Nintendo and Sony handhelds, the day they are announced I will have the money ready. That will be it for me though, I am going handheld only next generation simply because I have played them 80% of the time this generation and the home consoles 20% of the time. The franchises I enjoy are already on handhelds and do not expect that to change next generation so it seems a wise choice........also I'm getting too old to be playing games now.

Common sense already tells me what the next generation of consoles and handheld will be, for example I see Nintendo going for a modest increase in power for the DS2 while Sony will go all out with the PSP2 simply because they have different philosophies.

the first one... then the others as they release:p

None, first day buyers always get screwed over. Im waiting a year for the PS4.

I've bought ever single Nintendo console near launch (within a few months) since the SNES (was too young to get the NES at launch). However, unless Nintendo innovates again, it will be the first time I ever hold off for a little while. Not because I don't like the systems, but would probably just continue buying Wii and PS3 games for a while until their is a good back catalog for the next system.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
In the past we played games. In the future we watch games. - Forest-Spirit

It depends entirely on what games will launch with the console.

I'm a huge Nintendo fan, so no doubt I'll be picking up whatever they come out with, but I'll only pick it up immediately if it launches with games I'm dying to play. This means one of their big franchises (Zelda / SSB / Kart / Mario), or something new I'd enjoy (Wii Sports was decent, though not quite there for me).

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

I didn't fall for gimmicks this gen and I won't fall for it next gen (I pray they keep the dual shock intact and that motion crap as optional). PS4 will be a buy for me after about 1 year (first batch always seems to have a problem and first gen of games also seems lacking), the xbox is usually bought by my diehard friend randy, my aunt will probably get the next wii if it has another cute controller she can wave around. Needless to say I end up borrowing for the few games I would want to actually play all the way through (Zelda, Metroid, a Gears game, a splinter cell game).

None.

I'll get them once they beef up their libraries, reduce prices, and make better hardware.

Never buy on launch.

I don't buy consoles at launch. I've a feeling I'll be going handheld only though next gen too, handheld + PC just makes too much sense for me in my current situation, and I think the Wii will continue to serve it's social multiplayer purpose so no need for a next generation Wii, for me.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

None of them.

1) I like paying less.

2) I can use the time to catch up on old games.

3) I'm no longer a rabid Nintendo fanboy.

4) Handhelds are for 2-d gaming, and I fear for the next generation of handhelds.

Only a couple things would change my mind: a team ICO or Metroid launch title.
