Forums - Sales Discussion - Will Natal boost hardware sales ?

It will not move a single console and will be recalled within a month of release due to the terrible reception it will receive. Merry xmas, now can we close this obvious flamebait thread with a topic covered a thousand times?

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Both MS and Sony's attempts will crash and burn and end in tears. Imo. And it should, too little too late and with no real relevance or area of use it holds no value at all for me.

Yes, already received a great amount of publicity when it was first announced and the public preception seemed to enjoy it. You list a terrible example of why it won't do well all the while something as simple as Wii Fit is selling 20mil +. The question shouldn't be will Natal move hardware, it's how much hardware it will move.

Its the same question.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Playstation home a failure? What the...

On topic: I think it won't boost HW by as much as MS hopes, but definitely a bump.

Well let's just put it this way: Sony's third attempt at a successful PS3 motion controller will be a Natal clone.

Well let's just put it this way: Microsoft's first attempt at a successful Xbox 360 motion controller will be an EyeToy clone.

See, I can be biased too!

How about being honest, both of you. Whatever happens, it will end up being a clone of something made by Nintendo.

Eye Toy came out for the PS2, PS2 came before the Wii, therefore Nintendo copied the concept from Sony and put it to a larger scale.

So Sony did it first, but Nintendo did it better. You know like the Space Race, Russia did it first, but America did it better. Russia happened to get a man in Space but America got a man on the moon.

Back on topic: It will give 360 a slight push in sales but overall will flop.

2010 Hardware Sales Predictions

Wii: 20m- Sales will drop, but not by much.

PS3: 13.5m- It sold 12m in 2009, its only common sense it will sell more this year.

Xbox 360: 11m- It sold 11m in 2008 and 2009, I think it will sell the same.

My Fanboy Speech...

Why do you have to make excuses to defend a product that you purchased, but that's the only connection you have to it, you don't make it, you don't lose or gain money on it. I don't see where all of the defensiveness comes in, there is no reason for you or anybody else to feel obligated to defend it. Now I would understand if one of you were a developer for the product and you slaved over said product only to hear somebody call it stupid or a piece of junk. But none of you developed it, none of you are mature enough to realize that. Choosing a product all comes down to preference, you chose said product because it is best for you. Simple as that!

I disagree. First, twesterm is relevant. Second, we already know that Sony won't admit that the PS3 itself is a failure and instead they continue with more of their marketing speech (ten year plan and stuff like that). Of course we can't blame them for this as it would be stupid from them to acknowledge that the PS3 is a train wreck while it is still their main console, but this doesn't mean that the PS3 is not a failure just because Sony doesn't say so.

Sony copying isn't an opinion, it's a fact because it can be proved. Strangely enough you admit that they are indeed copying others (well, "borrow" certainly sounds nicer) right in the next sentence you wrote.

This is a pointless discussion Rol. As usual, I'll leave you to your beliefs.

As usual, I have hit your weak spot for massive damage and the only option you have left is to cast Shell and Protes at the same time on yourself.

Oh well. Too bad that I ran out of MP and can't cast Dispel anymore.

You've hit 0 weak spots Rol. Flattering that you think you matter that much to me though.

No, I just know arguing with you is very pointless. You can keep posting though, as I'm sure you will. Just understand that you will be ignored.

For me the problem is that I just don't know if I should take Rol seriously or not.

Thanks for the heads-up.

The hardware boost that the 360 receives from Natal will be barely distinguishable from zero.

First of all, it's too little, too late. We're four years into this console generation(five years if you count the handhelds), which means that the perception of the console is set. Had Nintendo released the Wiimote for the Gamecube in 2004, would it have made any kind of difference?

There's also software. The reason that the Stylus/Touchscreen for the DS and the Wiimote for the Wii have done so well is because Nintendo has been able to create enough first-party and second-party software to take advantage of them. They've made games that are accessible enough for new gamers and casual gamers and challenging enough for core/hardcore gamers and veteran gamers. Without that, the DS and Wii wouldn't be anywhere near as successful as they are today.

When it comes to first and second party titles, Microsoft doesn't really have anything outside of Halo, and certainly not anything that has the kind of universal appeal like the titles that are seen on the Wii and DS.

Furthermore, by releasing something like this in the middle of the generation, they're only reaffirming Nintendo as the market leader. At the most, Natal will just be seen as a weaker, more expensive version of what the Wii offers, and with far less games.

Consoles owned: Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, PSP, DS, PS3

This whole who is going to copy who is a bit silly.

MS copied Sony when they made the Xbox (dvd capable, gaming machine)
Sony copied Sega when they made the PS1 (disc based gaming)
Sony copied MS with trophies (and other things this gen)

Everyone copies something from someone else. This is a fact of corporate life and nothing for ANY of them to be ashamed of. (this list is not close to being complete, but just an example)

OT: I see both Natal and GEM selling well on their respective consoles, but only to current customers. Saying they wont sell ANY consoles is a bit of a stretch, but selling enough to change the media perception of each console, no.
